LTE CAT 1

LTE Cat 1 is a medium speed LTE standard designed for IoT applications that require higher data speeds

In comparison to high speed 4G LTE categories, such as Cat 4 and greater, LTE Cat 1 provides:

  • Lower power consumption with extended idle and sleep modes

  • Less complexity, resulting in a lower cost structure

In comparison to IoT-specific technologies, such as LTE-M or NB-IoT, LTE Cat 1 supports:

  • Voice over LTE (VoLTE) in current implementations

  • Data streaming

  • Low latency applications

In comparison to LPWAN technologies

  • Significantly more power consuming; optimal battery life is achieved with LPWAN technology

  • Shorter Range means more small cells & base stations for coverage

When we use it

  • applications with low latency requirements; mission critical and/or real-time

  • voice/image/video transmission

  • backhaul for LPWAN Base Stations (that are powered)

  • mobile applications - tracking
